ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was indicted in the Flagship Companies Ltd reference case today on Friday by the accountability court which is currently conducting corruption proceedings against the Sharif family after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed references against them under orders of the Supreme Court.
Nawaz Sharif’s representative, Zafir Khan pleaded ‘not guilty’ in response to the charges.
The charges leveled against the former prime minster state that he remained chairman of FZE Capital from 2007-14.
Nawaz was disqualified by the Supreme Court over his association with the aforementioned foreign company.
Nawaz Sharif was indicted in the Avenfield properties reference on Thursday as well in the Azizia Steel Mills reference, Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz’s son-in-law MNA Capt (retd) Safdar were also indicted in the Avenfield properties case.
The Accountability Court Judge Mohammad Bashir dismissed separate pleas filed by the three accused and indicted them.
Maryam, Safdar and Nawaz Sharif through his representative Zafir Khan, rejected these charges by pleading ‘not guilty’ and stressed that they would contest the Avenfield properties case.
The Accountability Court adjourned the hearing of the Azizia Steel Mills and Avenfield properties references case till October 26 and instructed the prosecutors to produce the first witness at the next hearing.
Nawaz Sharif is set to return to Pakistan on October 22 and is currently in London, accompanying his ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz who had won the recently concluded NA-120 elections.
